Detroit Diesel, the powertrain brand of Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) and a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty truck engines and commercial vehicle components, has introduced its new Gen-6 engine portfolio. The lineup includes the DD13, DD15, and DD16 engines. This next evolution of the popular engine series fully complies with the U.S. EPA 2027 standards and will be available across all heavy-duty Freightliner and Western Star truck models.

The Detroit Gen-6 series marks the first product launch resulting from Daimler Truck’s latest evolution of its Global Heavy-Duty Engine Platform (HDEP). This platform supports all brands and regions across the globe, with an annual production volume of approximately 200,000 engines.

All Detroit engines are manufactured in the United States at the Redford, Michigan, facility. This site serves as the research and development hub for Daimler Truck North America’s engines and components, and also houses the production lines for engines, transmissions, and axles. 

The Detroit Gen-6 DD13 and DD15 engines will be available starting in January 2027, followed by the launch of the Gen-6 DD16 in January 2028.
