Webasto Unveils Cool Top 120-e Electric Rooftop AC for E-Vans

Thermal management specialist Webasto has introduced the Cool Top 120-e, a new all-electric rooftop air conditioning unit designed specifically for light commercial vehicles, including electric vans, minibuses, delivery trucks, and ambulances. This rooftop solution delivers a cooling capacity of up to 41,000 BTU/h (12 kW).
The Cool Top 120-e features a variable-speed compressor that automatically adjusts its RPM and cooling output based on real-time demand. This makes the system exceptionally energy-efficient and quiet, whether the vehicle is parked or in motion. This increased efficiency does more than just enhance cabin comfort; it helps preserve the vehicle's driving range.

Engineered for the high-voltage architectures of modern e-vans, the system operates on 250V to 460V DC. It uses R1234yf, an eco-friendly refrigerant with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP). The units are shipped pre-charged and can be integrated into existing vehicle control systems via CAN bus or operated using an optional Webasto control panel.
Despite its high cooling performance, the unit remains compact and lightweight, measuring approximately 63 x 51 x 12 inches and weighing around 176 lbs (80 kg). This allows for easy integration onto vehicle roofs without significantly impacting aerodynamics or payload capacity. For fleet operators and specialty vehicle builders, Webasto offers customizable housing colors, air vents, and ducting to match specific vehicle requirements.
The Cool Top 120-e is capable of cooling both while driving and while stationary—a critical feature for emergency and service vehicles. Additionally, an integrated fresh-air function provides extra ventilation as needed, further improving passenger comfort.
