American EV manufacturer Rivian Automotive is set to evolve its Electric Delivery Van (EDV) lineup—the backbone of major fleets like Amazon’s. According to the company, Rivian is developing new variants engineered to offer more power, All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and a significant boost in range.
Key to this development is a larger battery pack designed to increase range by approximately 30%, potentially pushing the van’s real-world capability to over 200 miles on a single charge. Simultaneously, Rivian is introducing an AWD variant. This dual-motor setup will not only provide more horsepower but also drastically improve traction in mud and snow—conditions that have historically challenged front-wheel-drive electric vans. These upgrades aim to expand the EDV's operational footprint, making it a viable solution for fleets in rural regions and harsher climates.

To date, the standard EDV has utilized a front-wheel-drive system paired with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. While this configuration has proven highly reliable for urban, high-density "last-mile" delivery, the upcoming updates will modernize the platform for a wider variety of duty cycles. By enhancing performance and versatility,
