Mexico Develops Olinia Carga Electric Light Commercial Vehicle

Mexico is advancing the development of its own electric vehicle industry by adding a commercial model to its young Olinia brand: a new electric light utility vehicle. The recently unveiled Olinia Carga is expected to offer a range of over 75 miles (120 kilometers), carry a payload of up to 1,430 pounds (650 kilograms), and hit the market in late 2027. Priced at around 150,000 Mexican pesos, the compact electric transporter is primarily aimed at small businesses, merchants, and delivery services.

The Olinia Carga seats two people and can carry up to 1,430 pounds (650 kilograms) of cargo. According to the government, its range is specified at over 75 miles (120 kilometers) per charge, and it can be plugged into a standard wall outlet. Details regarding battery capacity and charging power have not yet been disclosed.
A major focus of the development process is keeping operating costs low. According to official statements, operating costs are expected to be around a quarter of those of a conventional light commercial vehicle.
Mexico is currently looking for an industrial partner for series production. A corresponding bidding process is set to begin in late September and conclude by December. The plan calls for a partnership with a majority Mexican-owned company that will manufacture the vehicles domestically.
Production targets are set at 10,000 units in the first year, with project leadership reporting that commitments are already in place for roughly 8,000 vehicles. Looking ahead, annual production capacity is expected to scale up to 50,000 units.
The Carga is part of a planned Olinia vehicle family. In June 2026, the company introduced the Olinia Uno, an electric city car slated for a 2027 launch with a range of around 78 miles (125 kilometers). Additionally, an Olinia Van featuring a closed cargo area is also in the pipeline.
