Current Developments in Dangerous Goods Regulations and the Future of Safe Dangerous Goods Transport

Increasing international interconnectedness and continued growth in global trade mean that the requirements for the safe transport of dangerous goods are becoming more demanding all the time. At the same time, technological progress is advancing, and new scientific findings as well as practical experience are continuously shaping the further development of the relevant regulations. For all stakeholders along the transport chain, it therefore remains essential to identify regulatory and technical developments early on and integrate them into their operational processes.

With BMV and VDA once again hosting Dangerous Goods Day, IAA Transportation 2026 will once again provide an opportunity to gain comprehensive insights into current legislative changes, technical innovations, and practical issues. The program will focus on a comprehensive overview of the international changes to dangerous goods regulations planned for 2027. These include, among other things, many new developments in the area of ADR approval for vehicles.

In addition, current information from the Federal/State Expert Committee on the “Transport of Dangerous Goods” will be presented. Other topics will include current discussions in international dangerous goods committees as well as current research topics.

There will also be an update on electronic documents: In 2027, the European requirements for electronic freight transport information (eFTI) must be implemented — which will also have implications for digitalization requirements in the dangerous goods sector.

Dangerous Goods Day 2026 will therefore once again offer a well-founded platform for exchange among academia, public authorities, industry, and users. The event will provide an opportunity to gain a clear picture at an early stage of the regulatory and technological developments that will play a major role in shaping the safe transport of dangerous goods in the coming years.
