IVECO will showcase its latest locally emission-free commercial vehicles under the theme “Drive the road of change” at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024. Two world premieres stand out: a new electric light commercial vehicle, developed with Hyundai, which marks IVECO’s entry into the upper range of the mid-size segment up to 3.5 tons, and the heavy-duty IVECO S-eWay chassis, designed to offer versatile and flexible locally emission-free solutions for all urban and regional needs. In total, over 20 vehicles will be on display, highlighting the extensive range of alternative fuel vehicles powered by HVO, biomethane, battery-electric, and hydrogen.
In the Test Drive Area, IVECO will offer 13 vehicles, ranging from light to medium to heavy trucks for visitors to test drive. This includes the new battery-electric commercial vehicles and the next generation of the IVECO S-Way, featuring semi-autonomous PlusDrive technology. There will be a huge range of vehicles that can be tested on-site.
At IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024, RIO is introducing its cloud-based Transport Management System (TMS) called Cartright. This system is designed to seamlessly integrate with RIO's telematics data, allowing both TMS and telematics to be provided from a single source. The solution aims to help logistics companies efficiently manage their fleets, optimize routes, and enhance communication between dispatchers and drivers. A key feature of this launch is the Order Communications upgrade for the Pocket Driver app, which will also be showcased at the event. This app enables drivers to access all relevant order information in real-time, including details about the load such as quantity, material, weight, and dimensions. Additionally, the app offers various communication tools, status updates, and a trip-specific chat feature further facilitating collaboration between drivers and dispatchers.
At IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024, Prologistik Group is showcasing its latest AI-powered software solutions for the logistics industry. The centerpiece is the pLG platform, a central data hub for all logistics processes. This platform is designed to allow users to efficiently manage every step of the supply chain, from warehouse management to route planning to final invoicing. The integration of smart, AI-driven route planning algorithms and optimization tools also aims to support the realization of green logistics
Hengst Filtration is highlighting its innovative filtration systems at IAA TRANSPORTATION, with a focus on solutions for alternative fuels and hydrogen engines. One of the standout products is the electrified cabin air filter, Blue.ion, which combines ionization and polarization to provide consistent filtration performance throughout its lifespan, effectively trapping pollutants, viruses, and allergens. For use with alternative fuels, Hengst is showcasing the Blue.maxx fuel filter system, which can be adapted to various requirements thanks to its modular design. In the field of hydrogen engines and fuel cells, Hengst is emphasizing specially developed filter elements and system solutions that not only enhance efficiency but also improve safety through innovative ventilation systems.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released the first images of its new Transporter and Caravelle, which are expected to set new standards in design, functionality, and drive technology. With a length of 5050 mm and a wheelbase of 3100 mm (or an optional 3500 mm), the vehicle can transport up to six Euro pallets. The load volume reaches up to 9.0 cubic meters in the extended wheelbase and high-roof versions, with a maximum payload capacity of 1.33 tons. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is offering a wide range of powertrain options for the new Transporter and Caravelle, including turbo diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric drives. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with numerous power outlets, including USB-A, USB-C, and 230V sockets. Inside, the vehicle features a digital 12-inch cockpit, a 13-inch infotainment display, and a keyless start system. The Caravelle, on the other hand, accommodates up to nine passengers and boasts premium features such as LED matrix headlights, a 3-zone climate control system, and an optional Harman Kardon sound system.
Consulting firm P3 has developed a new Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculator that demonstrates where electric trucks already offer financial advantages over diesel trucks. According to the analysis, under certain conditions—such as an annual mileage of 60,000 kilometers in regional transport or 100,000 kilometers in long-haul transport—electric trucks can save between 5 and 13 cents per kilometer.
P3's analysis highlights that electric trucks particularly benefit from lower energy costs and reduced toll fees at higher mileage. However, it also notes that these advantages depend heavily on electricity costs and charging infrastructure. The TCO calculator allows fleet managers to simulate various scenarios and identify the most cost-effective option for their fleets.
Decathlon has expanded its range of electric bikes with introducing the Long John F900E, an electric cargo bike specifically designed for families and heavy load transport. With a maximum payload capacity of 184 kg and space for up to four children, the bike is equipped with a Brose S Mag motor, delivering 90 Nm of torque and offering a range of up to 80 kilometers thanks to its 630-Wh battery. Safety features include hydraulic disc brakes and a GPS tracker, while practical extras such as a rain cover and a spacious luggage rack are also integrated.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has successfully completed the "eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024" for its fully electric eActros 600 truck. The two vehicles covered over 15,000 kilometers each, carrying a total weight of 40 tons, and were charged exclusively at public charging points. The tour took the trucks from Frankfurt, Germany to the North Cape and then to the southernmost point of Europe in Tarifa, Spain.
The tour was designed to gather valuable insights for the further development of Mercedes-Benz's long-haul electric solutions. The 500-kilometer range per battery charge proved to be reliable even under demanding conditions. Mercedes-Benz plans to present the detailed results of this tour at IAA TRANSPORTATION in September 2024.
Liebherr and Australian mining company Fortescue have deepened their collaboration to develop an autonomous electric mining truck. As part of this partnership, the "Autonomous Haulage Solution" (AHS) has been integrated into emission-free T 264 mining trucks, which are now being tested at Fortescue's Christmas Creek mine in Australia. This technology is designed to enable the autonomous operation of heavy mining equipment and increase efficiency in the mine. The AHS includes a fleet management system and a machine control solution that is independent of the OEM platforms used.
Amazon has announced that 15,000 of the 100,000 electric delivery vans ordered from Rivian are already in operation across the United States. These vehicles are a key part of Amazon's broader strategy to electrify and decarbonize its transportation network. Since the first deliveries in 2022, Amazon has steadily expanded its fleet to reduce the company's carbon footprint.
In addition to the Rivian vehicles, Amazon operates 15 other electric vehicle models worldwide, including electric cargo bikes and e-rickshaws. The company has also made significant investments in charging infrastructure, making it the largest private operator of charging stations in the US.
Ari Motors has introduced the new Ari 1710 electric van, designed as an eco-friendly alternative to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Ari 1710 offers up to 12 cubic meters of cargo space and a payload capacity of up to 1.5 tons. It is equipped with a 115 kW electric motor and can reach a top speed of 100 km/h. Depending on the battery configuration, the vehicle has a range of up to 415 kilometers. Thanks to its fast-charging capability, the battery can be charged to 80% in approximately 45 minutes. The vehicle is produced in collaboration with Chinese automaker Dongfeng, and the battery technology is supplied by Chinese market leader CATL.
