Could you briefly introduce yourself, your role, and your company?
Valeo is a technology company and partner of all types of vehicle manufacturers and new mobility players. It develops innovations to make mobility and transportation safer, more sustainable and affordable to all. Valeo is leveraging its global industrial footprint and its technological leadership in electrification, advanced driver assistance systems, lighting and software to provide strong support to its commercial vehicle customers worldwide.
My name is Thierry Simonin and I am Group Customer Vice President Commercial Vehicles at Valeo. In this role, I lead global sales and business development for all types of commercial vehicles for people and goods transportation.
What does the IAA TRANSPORTATION slogan “We Deliver” mean to you?
I like the double meaning of the slogan. In the transport sector, it is all about delivering goods and also providing mobility for people. But it also means we do what we promise. We need to demonstrate that now is the time to make autonomous and electrified trucks a reality. We have all spent enough time talking about these trends.
What are your expectations for IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, and what are you looking forward to the most?
IAA TRANSPORTATION is the perfect opportunity for Valeo to showcase our latest technologies for commercial vehicles. It is a unique chance to exchange ideas with current and future clients. We have secured high-value customer meetings in advance and anticipate dynamic, engaging discussions around our solutions at our booth in Hall 20.
Which specific topics or innovations will you be showcasing at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026?
We present technologies particularly for electrified, autonomous and software-driven commercial vehicles. Our ADAS sensors, sensor cleaning technologies and computing solutions support all levels of autonomous driving and are a game-changer for the industry.
We offer comprehensive software and services for software-defined trucks, including ADAS and parking software, AI-powered perception and decision-making, digital services, cloud intelligence and continuous feature evolution.
Our electrification solutions for powertrain and thermal systems include the EDC-120 electric compressor with integrated inverter, specifically designed for the electric bus and truck segments, alongside smart heat pumps, High Voltage Coolant Heaters, inverters/on-board chargers and e-propulsion systems.
Beyond long-haul and distribution trucks and buses, Valeo is extending its leadership to last-mile delivery and cargo mobility with Cyclee™ by Valeo, providing end-to-end electric powertrain solutions that connect long-haul trucking to zero-emission urban logistics.
In which area of the transport and logistics sector do you see the greatest potential, and where is the most urgent need for improvement?
The transport and logistics sector is undergoing its most profound transformation in over a century. After a decade of asking when these changes would arrive, the answer is clearly now.
The greatest potential lies at the convergence of Level 4 autonomy to address driver shortages, Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) to improve features and updates, and high-efficiency electrification to reduce TCO.
However, realizing this potential requires addressing our most urgent need: bridging the gap between complex standalone technologies and zero-fail, fleet-ready full systems with operational reliability. Overcoming this hurdle requires a fundamental shift from traditional vendor transactions to strategic technology partnerships built on shared roadmaps and true co-development.
IAA TRANSPORTATION is the world’s leading platform for commercial vehicles, transport, and logistics, bringing together innovators from every corner of the mobility spectrum. Who are you looking to connect with this coming September, and why?
I am excited to meet many of our customers from around the world face-to-face at our booth. At IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, Valeo is looking to connect with commercial vehicle OEMs, fleet operators, logistics providers and technology partners.
As the commercial vehicle sector undergoes a rapid dual transformation toward zero emissions and higher levels of automation, we are eager to collaborate on turning these trends into active, mass-market realities.
The shift toward sustainable solutions in transport and logistics is massive. What is your vision for the industry 10 years from now?
A decade from now, sustainable transport will be defined not just by what powers the vehicle, but by how intelligently that vehicle operates. Our vision at Valeo is a decarbonized, highly automated logistics network where software-defined commercial vehicles use smart thermal architectures and advanced ADAS to maximize range, uptime and safety.
The transition will move from adopting standalone green technologies to managing a holistic, circular ecosystem—where energy efficiency, material sustainability and low Total Cost of Ownership work in perfect harmony.
Looking back at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024, what has been the most significant change within your company or the industry as a whole?
The single biggest shift since IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024 is the industry's transition from asking if these technologies work to solving how they scale reliably.
Two years ago, autonomous and software-defined commercial vehicles were still treated as separate technological tracks. Today, L4 autonomy, SDV architectures and electrification have fully converged.
At Valeo, this transformation pushed us from providing standalone hardware to delivering integrated heavy-duty platforms like our Full L4 Pod, which combines perception, compute and proactive cleaning to guarantee absolute operational uptime.
Industry-wide, it has replaced traditional transactional purchasing with strategic co-development partnerships built to launch this technology on real fleets.
In what ways is AI transforming your company?
At Valeo, AI is nothing new; it has been an operational reality for 15 years. It first revolutionized our products, particularly in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). AI is the “fuel” for our products. Without AI, there are no autonomous vehicles, no “zero-accident” active safety and no smart energy management.
AI has also become a pillar of our operational excellence at the very heart of our factories. We deploy AI for predictive quality control and the optimization of our production lines. 100% of our Valeo software engineers are trained and equipped with AI.
If you could leave the industry with just one message at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, what would it be?
Let’s act now!
As heavy-duty mobility undergoes its biggest transformation yet, Valeo stands as the essential technology partner, bridging hardware expertise with software intelligence to power the next generation of smart commercial vehicles.
We need to demonstrate that now is the time to make autonomous and electrified trucks a reality.
