
Could you briefly introduce yourself, your role, and your company?
I’m Markus Mildner, CEO of Siemens eMobility, where I’m responsible for Siemens’ global EV charging infrastructure business. We bring together charging hardware, software, and services, and we can also draw on Siemens’ broader expertise in areas such as power distribution, grid connections, and intelligent infrastructure.
Today, more than 20,000 DC chargers are installed worldwide across over 800 projects.
What drives me personally is that eMobility has a very tangible impact. It can help reduce emissions, noise, and dependence on fossil fuels, while creating cleaner and more livable cities. At the same time, it is a major business transformation, and I want to help make that transformation work in practice.
What does the IAA TRANSPORTATION slogan “We Deliver” mean to you?
For me, “We Deliver” comes down to execution. We have talked about the transition for a long time, but in commercial transport, the real measure of progress is what works on the road and in the depot. Fleet operators need reliable charging, high vehicle availability, predictable costs, and solutions that can grow with their business.
So delivering means moving beyond pilots and individual products. It means bringing hardware, software, energy management, and services together in a way that performs every day.
What are your expectations for IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, and what are you looking forward to the most?
I’m looking forward to very open and practical conversations. The question is no longer whether heavy-duty transport will become electric. The question is how we make the transition faster, economically viable, and scalable.
I want to hear what is working for fleet and depot operators, where they still see obstacles, and how the industry can solve them together. The IAA is valuable because customers, vehicle manufacturers, energy companies, technology providers, policymakers, and many other partners are all in one place. That is exactly the ecosystem we need.
Which specific topics or innovations will you be showcasing at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026?
Our central theme is “Charging beyond hardware.” At the heart of our presence is SICHARGE FLEX, our distributed charging system for the megawatt era. It separates power from the charging point, so a central power cabinet can dynamically supply several dispensers.
The system supports CCS and MCS and offers scalable power levels from 480 kilowatts up to 1.68 megawatts. This flexibility is especially valuable in depots, where the site layout, vehicle schedules, dwell times, and grid connection all have to work together.
But the charger is only one part of the answer. With our software tools such as Sifinity Control and Depotfinity, and our service offering, we connect monitoring, control, diagnostics, maintenance, and operational planning. The result is a complete system designed around availability, efficient energy use, and long-term scalability.
In which area of the transport and logistics sector do you see the greatest potential, and where is the most urgent need for improvement?
The greatest potential is clearly in fleets and depots, where vehicles follow defined operating patterns and can create a strong economic case for electrification when the complete system is planned properly.
The most urgent need for improvement is coordination. Too often, vehicles, charging infrastructure, grid capacity, energy supply, depot processes, and software are still treated as separate projects. They are not separate. The main purpose of a truck is to move goods, so charging has to fit the operation, not the other way around.
We need integrated planning from the very beginning, with total cost of ownership, resilience, and future growth built into the design.
One opportunity that is often underestimated is the role electric fleets can play in supporting the energy system. Yes, EVs consume electricity, but with smart charging, they can also help reduce peak loads and use grid capacity more efficiently.
The dwell time of vehicles in depots creates enormous flexibility. By shifting charging to the right time, operators can lower costs, improve asset utilization, and at the same time reduce pressure on the grid. That makes electrification not just a transport solution, but an energy solution as well.
IAA TRANSPORTATION is the world’s leading platform for commercial vehicles, transport, and logistics, bringing together innovators from every corner of the mobility spectrum. Who are you looking to connect with this coming September, and why?
I want to speak with fleet and depot operators first, because their operational reality has to guide everything we do. I also want to connect with truck and bus manufacturers, utilities, grid operators, logistics companies, charging operators, planning experts, and policymakers.
Heavy-duty electrification is not a product that one company can deliver alone. Interoperability, grid access, permitting, installation, financing, digital control, and service all need to come together. My goal is to turn those conversations into practical partnerships that remove complexity for customers and accelerate implementation.
The shift toward sustainable solutions in transport and logistics is massive. What is your vision for the industry 10 years from now?
In ten years, transport will be much more electric, digital, and closely connected to the energy system. Charging will no longer be an add-on or a separate technical topic. It will be part of the daily operating model of every electric fleet.
Software will continuously coordinate vehicle schedules, departure times, available grid power, energy prices, batteries, and renewable generation. Depots will become intelligent energy hubs, and infrastructure will be designed to adapt as fleets grow.
Most importantly, electric transport should no longer feel like a special sustainability project. It should simply be the reliable and economically attractive way to run a fleet.
Looking back at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024, what has been the most significant change within your company or the industry as a whole?
Two years ago, much of the discussion was still about feasibility. Today, we know that electric trucks and buses can work. The focus has moved to questions of scale: How do I electrify hundreds of vehicles? How do I manage energy intelligently? How do I keep operations reliable while maintaining a competitive total cost of ownership?
The market has become far more focused on operational outcomes. Customers are no longer asking for kilowatts or individual chargers. They want to understand how a solution fits their routes, their depot operations, their grid connection, their service model, and their long-term investment plans.
At the same time, the market is consolidating. We see charging operators, infrastructure providers, and technology companies joining forces as the industry matures and scales.
Over the last few years, we have focused our own business around three regions: Europe, North America, and India. In North America, we operate under the brand “Heliox, A Siemens business,” combining Siemens’ scale with Heliox’s strong heritage in fleet and depot charging.
Siemens has integrated Heliox and combined the businesses to strengthen its position in heavy-duty charging and accelerate growth in strategically relevant markets.
At the same time, we have established strong R&D and manufacturing hubs, allowing us to innovate faster, respond more quickly to customer requirements, and bring solutions to market with greater speed and flexibility.
In what ways is AI transforming your company?
AI is particularly useful wherever complexity and data volumes are increasing. In charging infrastructure, it can support diagnostics, predictive maintenance, energy optimization, and better operational decisions.
Imagine a depot with hundreds of vehicles and charging points, all with different departure times, battery levels, and power requirements. That cannot be optimized manually.
AI and advanced analytics can help identify patterns, anticipate potential issues, and use the available energy more intelligently. For me, the value of AI is very practical: higher availability, fewer unnecessary service visits, lower operating costs, and better decisions for our customers.
If you could leave the industry with just one message at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, what would it be?
The technology is ready. Now we need speed, collaboration, and execution. We have to plan vehicles, infrastructure, energy, software, and service as one system.
The next step is not to have more discussion about whether it can be done. The next step is to deliver.
