Portrait of Antoine Duclaux from Renault Trucks for the IAA VOICES series.
Antoine Duclaux, CEO Renault Trucks

Could you briefly introduce yourself, your role, and your company?

I am Antoine Duclaux. I had the privilege of becoming CEO of Renault Trucks less than a year ago after four years at the headquarters of the Volvo Group. Renault Trucks is a truck manufacturer and transport solutions provider, with 130 years of industrial expertise and 25 years as part of the Volvo Group.

I am fortunate to join a company with exceptional foundations, strong support from the Volvo Group and, above all, exceptional people: passionate teams with deep expertise and a strong commitment to what they do.

My role is to build on these foundations, develop future solutions to help our customers navigate one of the biggest transformations our industry has ever experienced, namely the decarbonisation of transport.

What does the IAA TRANSPORTATION slogan “We Deliver” mean to you?

To me, “We Deliver” goes far beyond delivering goods. It is about delivering on our commitments: to our customers, to society and to the transition towards more sustainable transport. Today, the challenge is to keep being a vital part of society and to support the growth of logistics while reducing our impact.

And, as it happens, it was actually Renault Trucks’ tagline for many years!

What are your expectations for IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, and what are you looking forward to the most?

IAA TRANSPORTATION is a great opportunity to meet the stakeholders who are shaping the future of transport: customers, partners, policymakers and industry players. I am particularly looking forward to exchanging with them about how we can accelerate the transition to electromobility, and what it will take to make it happen faster in real-world transport operations. It is also a good opportunity to showcase our new products and solutions in heavy-duty and light commercial vehicles.

Which specific topics or innovations will you be showcasing at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026?

Our message at IAA is clear: the transition to more efficient and sustainable transport is already happening, and we are making it practical. At the fair, we will showcase our latest innovations, from our new Model Year 2027 trucks, which combine improved fuel efficiency with enhanced safety and driver comfort, to our expanding range of electric solutions. These include the newly released Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780, with a leading range of up to 660 km, the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 540 for regional distribution, the Renault Trucks E-Tech D14T for urban operations, as well as our new native-electric LCV offering, which will be launched in 2027.

Together, they demonstrate how Renault Trucks is making every kilometre more efficient for our customers’ operations, with electric transport covering an ever wider range of applications.

In which area of the transport and logistics sector do you see the greatest potential, and where is the most urgent need for improvement?

I see two areas that are becoming increasingly important: electrification on one hand, and the ability of the transport industry to respond to critical needs such as emergency services and defence on the other hand.

Electrification is a major opportunity to reduce CO₂ emissions. We already have a full range of electric trucks that deliver the performance our customers expect, covering more than 90% of transport use cases. And for a growing number of operations, the business case makes sense as well. But the technology needs to be supported by the right infrastructure and economic conditions to accelerate adoption. This is where we expect strong engagement of the European and national authorities.

At the same time, the current geopolitical context and the growing need for resilient emergency response are highlighting the importance of specialised transport solutions. Renault Trucks has the industrial expertise and flexibility to adapt its trucks to highly specific requirements, whether for armed forces, firefighters or other demanding missions.

In both areas, the challenge is ultimately the same: understanding what customers need and having the capabilities to deliver the right solution for the mission.

IAA TRANSPORTATION is the world’s leading platform for commercial vehicles, transport, and logistics, bringing together innovators from every corner of the mobility spectrum. Who are you looking to connect with this coming September, and why?

First and foremost, our customers. We bring our own expertise as a truck manufacturer and transport solutions provider, but our customers bring their experience from operating trucks every day. That combination is essential to developing solutions that work in real-world operations and create value for their business.

I also want to connect with partners across the ecosystem: energy providers, infrastructure players, bodybuilders, technology companies and policymakers. Accelerating the transition to electromobility requires us all to move forward together.

The shift toward sustainable solutions in transport and logistics is massive. What is your vision for the industry 10 years from now?

Ten years from now, I believe electric trucks will be a natural part of everyday transport, across most applications. The biggest change may be in how we define performance.

The best transport solution will no longer be judged solely on the truck specifications. It will be the one that delivers the best balance between operational performance, economic efficiency and lower environmental impact – taking into account the vehicle, the service, the energy ecosystem, how it is operated, and the needs of the business.

The transition is also an opportunity to rethink the way transport is organised. We are already seeing customers redesign routes and operations around electric trucks, sometimes creating new opportunities to improve drivers’ working conditions and quality of life. For me, that is the future of sustainable transport: moving more efficiently, with less environmental impact, while creating better conditions for the people who keep our industry moving.

Looking back at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, what has been the most significant change within your company or the industry as a whole?

I think the biggest change has been the pace of change itself. Over the past few years, our industry has had to navigate economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, new technologies and increasingly ambitious environmental expectations. Since the pandemic, road transport has also gained stronger recognition for its vital role in society and the economy. At the same time, regulations such as VECTO, changing energy landscapes, and evolving customer expectations have transformed the way we think about performance and competitiveness.

In this environment, success depends less on predicting the future than on being ready for it. The ability to anticipate change, adapt quickly and make decisions with confidence has become more important than ever.

In what ways is AI transforming your company?

AI is already changing the way we work, across customer services and business processes.

Looking ahead, AI will become as fundamental to transport as electrification and connectivity. It will help make transport safer, more efficient and more sustainable, while enabling us to better anticipate needs and optimise operations.

The real challenge is combining technology with human expertise to create value for our customers.

If you could leave the industry with just one message at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, what would it be?

We should stop thinking that we have to choose between sustainability and competitiveness. The real challenge is to bring the two together.

For transport operators, decarbonisation will happen at scale when sustainable solutions also deliver operational performance, economic value and peace of mind. As an industry, our ambition is clear: making the sustainable choice the best business choice.

We expect policymakers and national authorities in Europe to take responsibility for the enabling conditions and support this move.
