Tesla is returning to IAA TRANSPORTATION with its Tesla Semi. On X (formerly Twitter), the US manufacturer announced that it will release the European specifications and launch details for the Semi during the event. An actual Semi truck will also be on display in the exhibition halls.

The electric semi is currently being built in a dedicated, standalone factory right next to Gigafactory Nevada. The plant is designed for an annual capacity of 50,000 trucks, with production set to ramp up in phases.

Both trim levels feature a powertrain powered by three integrated electric motors delivering up to 800 kW of output, paired with an 822 kWh or 548 kWh battery pack. The Semi is designed to support megawatt charging at up to 1.2 MW. The corresponding charging infrastructure is currently being rolled out across parts of the US.

The installed charging hardware relies on the 1.2 MW charging solution Tesla announced for the Semi last spring, built on its proprietary V4 technology—the same tech the automaker uses to boost performance for its passenger vehicle chargers. It functions as a decentralized system made up of sleek satellite dispensers and a separate, standalone power cabinet (the "power unit"). Scaled up, this technology is designed to hit the aforementioned 1.2 MW output, which can restore most of the Semi’s 500-mile (800 km) range in just half an hour.
