







MHI Launches New Electric Transport Refrigeration Units in Europe

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems (MHI Thermal Systems) has launched European sales for its new TEU series of electric-driven transport refrigeration units. Marketed under the Preciso brand, these new models are designed specifically for electric trucks, featuring a modular design that allows for flexible installation even in tight spaces.

Modular Design for Electric Trucks
The manufacturer separates the refrigeration unit’s key components—the condenser, evaporator, and compressor—into individual compact modules. Depending on the vehicle configuration, these can be installed in various locations.
Compared to the conventional TU series with its standalone generator for the cooling system, MHI Thermal Systems has significantly downsized the units. The volume of the main unit is roughly 30 percent smaller, while the required width and surface area for the installation opening have been reduced by 40 percent, and the overall weight has dropped by 55 percent.
Economizer Cycle Boosts Cooling Capacity
Despite its more compact dimensions, the TEU series is built for use in heavy-duty trucks. To deliver the necessary cooling power, MHI Thermal Systems relies on an "economizer cycle."
In this process, a portion of the refrigerant is diverted to subcool the main refrigerant flow. It is then injected into an intermediate stage of the compressor during compression, effectively boosting total cooling capacity.
Multiple Temperature Zones in a Single Vehicle
With the TEU1400MA, MHI Thermal Systems also offers a multi-evaporator variant. This allows different areas of the cargo space to be kept at different temperature levels simultaneously.
For partitioned cargo holds, four different evaporator sizes are available. This makes it easy to transport various types of temperature-sensitive goods—each with its own specific requirements—within the same vehicle.
