Imbema presents an integrated safety concept for vans with automated gas detection at IAA TRANSPORTATION

Automatic gas monitoring in the van as a trade fair premiere

At the center of the trade show appearance is a new gas detection solution for the cargo area. The system continuously monitors air quality and detects even low concentrations of potentially dangerous gases. When a critical concentration is detected, a warning is automatically issued. According to the company, the solution operates fully automatically and requires no user intervention.

In combination with the electrically powered roof fan “Easy Aero Electric,” the system automatically activates the vehicle’s ventilation and exhaust. This should actively reduce the gas concentration in the cargo area. Optionally, warnings can also be transmitted to the driver or to a central control center or dispatch, so that further actions can be initiated. The manufacturer identifies companies that transport gas cylinders or other hazardous materials in particular as a target group.

New solution for heavy gases in electric transporters

Another focus is a new suction unit for heavy gases. Due to their physical properties, these accumulate in the lower area of the cargo space and can reach critical concentrations there. Previously, they were often vented via floor vents. According to the company, however, this principle can only be implemented to a limited extent in battery-electric transporters because the vehicle floor is largely occupied by the traction batteries.

As an alternative, Imbema is developing a compact electric suction unit that is installed in the lower area of the cargo space. The system captures heavy gases directly at their collection point and discharges them to the outside via a short outlet on the underside of the vehicle. According to the provider, the solution is particularly suitable for modern electric transporters, where conventional floor vents are not feasible or are only feasible to a limited extent due to design constraints.

Ventilation system as the basis of the safety concept

For several years, Imbema has offered the “Easy Aero” roof ventilation system as a solution for continuous ventilation of cargo spaces. According to the company, the system operates with patented Push-&-Pull Venturi technology and has no moving parts. This is intended to increase operational reliability while reducing maintenance and installation effort.

For applications requiring higher air exchange or for use when the vehicle is stationary, the electrically powered Easy Aero Electric variant is also available. In addition, the company points to the EUMOS directive for the ventilation of light commercial vehicles, which underscores the importance of safely venting harmful gases.

Supplementary solutions for theft protection and ergonomics

Besides cargo area security, Imbema, together with partner BlockShaft, presents additional products for vans. These include Gatelock van locks to protect against break-ins, offered in both mechanical and electronic variants with NFC technology. The portfolio is complemented by the “Easy Step” steps. These enable safe entry and exit and, according to the company, can be mounted on the existing mounting points of nearly all common van models without extensive vehicle modifications.

System offering for vehicle fitters and workshops

The company targets commercial vehicle dealers, workshops and vehicle fitters. The portfolio includes solutions for cargo area ventilation, vehicle safety and ergonomics as well as technical consulting and logistics services.
