France has unveiled a new electromobility master plan designed to multiply the number of fast-charging points along its major transit corridors. This initiative aims to establish the necessary infrastructure for widespread electric mobility in both the passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors. The core objective of the master plan is to install approximately 30,000 fast-charging points for medium- and long-distance travel by 2035, with roughly 8,000 of these stations specifically dedicated to electric trucks. With this move, the French government is responding to the surging demand for high-performance charging infrastructure required for both private travel and freight logistics.
The expansion efforts are concentrated on the "Réseau routier national," the state-owned national highway network. This network covers about 12,500 miles of highways and national roads and carries roughly one-third of the country's total traffic volume, including the vast majority of long-distance trips. By significantly increasing the density of fast-charging stations along these primary arteries, the government intends to ensure that long-distance travel in electric vehicles becomes seamless. Currently, there are about 4,500 charging points available across 420 rest areas within this network, supplemented by nearly 7,500 additional fast-charging points along other vital transit routes.

A pivotal component of this master plan is the targeted support for commercial vehicle infrastructure. By designating 8,000 planned charging points specifically for trucks, France is placing a clear strategic emphasis on the decarbonization of road freight transport. The integration of high-power charging points for heavy-duty vehicles along major routes is considered a decisive step in making long-haul electric logistics both economically viable and practically feasible.
