Taiwanese tech giant Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) have announced plans to establish an independent Bus OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in Japan, specifically focused on Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs).

The new venture is slated to begin operations in the second half of 2026. It will oversee the development, production, supply chain management, and sales of zero-emission buses. The initial phase will involve a collaboration between Mitsubishi Fuso—a legacy manufacturer with over 90 years of experience in commercial vehicles—and Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, Foxconn’s automotive subsidiary. The partnership plans to build advanced electric buses based on Foxtron’s "MODEL T" and "MODEL U" platforms.
A Strategic Partnership for Clean Mobility
Katsuto Kora, currently a director and head of the FUSO bus division at Mitsubishi Fuso, has been named CEO of the new company. The partnership aims to leverage the unique strengths of both parties: Mitsubishi Fuso’s long-standing design and manufacturing prowess and Foxconn’s zero-emission technology, technical expertise, and network partnerships. Together, they intend to provide high-quality, sustainable buses for both the Japanese and international markets.
Foxconn emphasized that mobility is a strategic priority and that this cooperation will accelerate the development of digital, carbon-neutral transportation solutions. By integrating local development, procurement, and production, the company aims to ensure efficient compliance with Japan’s rigorous quality and regulatory standards.
The joint venture is designed not only to develop electric buses but to bring them to market quickly. Mitsubishi Fuso contributes its established "FUSO" brand and deep commercial vehicle experience, while Foxconn provides its expertise in electrification, electronics, and global partnerships to shorten innovation cycles and increase cost efficiency.
