Ford Transit City Launches as a Compact Electric Van for Urban Traffic

Up to 381 Kilometers of Range in City Traffic

The Transit City is powered by a 110 kW (150 hp) electric motor. Energy is supplied by a lithium iron phosphate battery with a usable capacity of 56 kWh. This gives the electric van a range of up to 254 kilometers. According to Ford, up to 381 kilometers are possible in the city cycle.

According to the manufacturer, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in about 33 minutes at a fast-charging station. Ford offers the Transit City with only one powertrain option and one battery size to keep lineup complexity to a minimum.

Standard equipment includes front and rear park assist, a rearview camera, traffic sign recognition, One-Pedal Drive, and an anti-theft alarm system.

Up to Eight Cubic Meters of Cargo Volume

Customers have more choices when it comes to body styles. As a panel van, the Transit City is available in two lengths and heights. The L1/H1 configuration measures 4.985 meters in length and 1.991 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 3.060 meters. The larger L2/H2 variant is 30 centimeters longer in both overall length and wheelbase, and 29.4 centimeters taller.

Depending on the configuration, the van offers a load length of more than three meters, a cargo volume of up to eight cubic meters, and a maximum permissible payload of 1,275 kilograms.

First Chassis Cab in the 1-Ton Class

With the Transit City, Ford Pro is also introducing a single-cab chassis in the 1-ton payload class for the first time. This makes the electric vehicle suitable as a base for industry-specific upfits and custom conversions. In Germany, Ford Pro works with 39 certified upfitting and body partners for this purpose.

In addition to custom solutions, customers can order the Transit City directly through Ford with a flatbed or box body. The model is therefore aimed at tradespeople, delivery services, and other commercial customers with varying vehicle body requirements.

Prices Start at 35,990 Euros Net

The starting price for the new Transit City is 35,990 euros net or 42,828.10 euros gross. Ford also offers leasing rates starting at 309 euros net per month.

In addition to energy costs, the electric drive system is also expected to reduce maintenance requirements. Ford Pro estimates maintenance costs to be 40 percent lower than those of a comparable diesel van. Scheduled service intervals are set at two years or 40,000 kilometers.

With the addition of the Transit City, the Transit lineup grows to five models. Ford Pro positions the new model primarily as an electric commercial vehicle for businesses whose vehicles are mainly used on shorter routes in urban and regional traffic.
