Dongfeng is calling its new fuel cell solution China's first domestically developed hydrogen fuel cell platform with metal bipolar plates "to pass the 10,000-hour endurance test under the new national standards." This comes as China has enacted stricter regulations to ensure vehicle quality control.

As an additional innovation, the manufacturer introduced a new commercial vehicle platform called the T1, emphasizing that it is designed to support the 400 kW fuel cell system. According to the company, the T1 platform focuses on four core pillars: low energy consumption, lightweight design, fast refueling, and high safety standards.

Following real-world testing in both mountainous and flat regions, the hydrogen vehicles manufactured by Dongfeng reportedly achieved a hydrogen consumption rate of just 7 kg per 100 kilometers (approx. 11.2 lbs per 62 miles). The 49-metric-ton hydrogen-powered tractor unit itself weighs 8.8 metric tons. With a refueling time of just 15 minutes, the vehicles are expected to achieve a range of up to 1,700 kilometers (approx. 1,050 miles).
