







Clean Motion Launches Field Test for Battery Swapping on the EVIG Solar Electric Vehicle

Swedish vehicle manufacturer Clean Motion has completed the development of a battery-swapping system for its light electric vehicle, the EVIG, and is now kicking off real-world testing in urban traffic. As part of the Stockholm Local Transition (STOLT) project, the vehicles will be deployed alongside delivery service Foodora to trial a shared battery-swapping infrastructure across different vehicle types.
In addition to Clean Motion, partners in the project include the City of Stockholm, Lund University, GoCimo, and Foodora. The goal is to establish a unified battery-swapping infrastructure for a variety of electric vehicles—ranging from e-mopeds to light commercial EVs—supporting the push toward a zero-emission city center by 2030. The initiative is funded by Vinnova and Viable Cities.

Shared Battery-Swapping Platform for Diverse Vehicle Types
Over the past year, Clean Motion refined the EVIG’s battery system, mechanical design, and interfaces so the vehicle can tap into GoCimo's existing battery-swapping network in Stockholm. Validation is now underway during regular Foodora delivery operations, including runs through the historic Gamla Stan old town and areas within the Class 3 low-emission zone.
The project aims to explore how an existing battery-swapping infrastructure can serve multiple vehicle classes, as well as the benefits this offers for urban commercial traffic.

Solar-Electric Light Vehicle for Delivery Services
Developed in Sweden, the EVIG is a light electric vehicle built for transport and service applications. Depending on the configuration, it offers a range between 100 and 150 kilometers (62 to 93 miles). On sunny days, the solar panel integrated into the roof can provide an extra 40 to 50 kilometers (25 to 31 miles) of range.
By swapping batteries, charging downtime is eliminated, allowing the vehicle to run continuously throughout daily operations without extended parked charging periods.
Insights for Future Expansion
Stockholm already boasts an active GoCimo battery-swapping network. With the integration of the EVIG, this network is expanding to accommodate additional vehicle categories. Data and insights gathered during the current trial phase will serve as a foundation for further development and potential expansion of the system.
