ABB E-mobility has unveiled its new OM X-Series, a megawatt charging system designed for high-demand applications in the commercial vehicle and fleet sectors. The new platform is geared toward logistics centers, bus and truck depots, and public fast-charging hubs with high energy requirements and continuous operation.

The new system features a modular design and, according to ABB, can scale from 800 kW to a total output of over 10 MW. This allows for more than 100 charging points to be powered at a single location. The initial configuration consists of two 800 kW power cabinets supporting up to 24 charging points.
Power distribution is handled dynamically via a central load management system. This allows the available power to be flexibly allocated across different vehicles and charging points. ABB highlights the system's exceptional efficiency and improved utilization of installed infrastructure.
With the OM X-Series, ABB utilizes a fully liquid-cooled architecture. The power modules, cables, and cooling units all use liquid cooling to ensure high charging outputs remain stable during long-term operation.
The silicon carbide power modules achieve an efficiency rating of over 98% in continuous operation, according to ABB. This is intended to minimize energy loss and reduce operating costs.
The OM X-Series supports various charging standards, including CCS, NACS, and the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for electric commercial vehicles. The high-performance "Ultra" charging unit delivers up to 1,500 amps and is specifically designed for heavy-duty electric trucks.
Additionally, ABB offers a range of dispenser variants for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and fleet applications. These include single and dual charging points, as well as specialized docking solutions for depot use.
